Why Jim’s Test & Tag?
Jim’s Test & Tag is a practical, technical business built around helping organisations improve workplace safety and manage their compliance responsibilities.
The work goes beyond putting tags on electrical equipment. The division provides electrical equipment testing and tagging, RCD safety switch testing, microwave testing, emergency and exit light testing, fire protection testing, fire equipment services, and other workplace safety services.
For a franchisee, that creates an opportunity to develop relationships with businesses, offices, schools, warehouses, construction sites, rental properties, and other organisations that need professional safety testing and inspection services.
Starting independently means developing your own brand, processes, customer base, technical knowledge, business systems, and support network. With Jim’s Test & Tag, you still own and operate the business, but you start within an established franchise system with training and ongoing support around you.
Most recognized brand
96% of Australians recognise the Jim’s name. You’re not starting from scratch on reputation.

Pay for Work Guarantee
If work is slow, Jim’s Group guarantees a minimum level of paid work. You’re not left sitting idle in your first months.
Full training

You don’t necessarily need to come from the electrical safety industry to start exploring the opportunity.
What matters is being prepared to learn the technical side of the work while also developing the skills needed to run a professional service business.

Jim’s Test & Tag is not a passive investment.
You are operating a safety-focused business where customers depend on you to perform testing correctly and maintain appropriate records.You need to be prepared to learn, follow relevant procedures and standards, work independently, deal professionally with customers, and take responsibility for building your business.
If that combination of technical work, customer service, and business ownership appeals to you, Jim’s Test & Tag is worth exploring.
Training to Help You Get Started
Training
Current Jim’s Test & Tag material describes an induction program that begins with Jim’s Group business training before moving into quoting, operational systems, and technical training. The division emphasises understanding the testing process rather than simply teaching franchisees to operate testing equipment.
Business Training
The opening component introduces franchisees to Jim’s Group, its business systems, and the Customer Centre before training progresses into the operational requirements of running the franchise.
Practical & Technical Training
Training then moves into quoting, operational systems, and the technical work involved in Test & Tag services.
Ongoing Support
Training does not finish when you begin operating. Jim’s Test & Tag states that franchisees continue to receive support after starting their business.
Training duration
The current franchise enquiry page specifies a 15-day induction training course in Melbourne, while the current training page describes the first two days as Jim’s Group training before progressing into practical and technical content.
Because training arrangements can change, confirm this duration and location with the division immediately before publication.
What Running a Jim’s Test & Tag Franchise Looks Like
This is a mobile service business. Rather than working from one fixed location, you travel to customer premises to carry out testing, inspections, and related safety services.
Your customers could include offices, schools, warehouses, construction sites, rental properties, and other workplaces.
A typical day could include:
- travelling to customer sites;
- inspecting and testing electrical equipment;
- testing RCD safety switches;
- completing microwave or emergency-light testing;
- recording test results;
- preparing reports;
- quoting additional work;
- talking with customers about safety requirements;
- organising upcoming appointments; and
- managing your business administration.
The mix will depend on your customers, qualifications, and services.
More Than Test & Tag
Jim’s Test & Tag positions itself as a broader electrical and fire-safety service provider rather than offering appliance testing alone. That gives franchisees the potential to service multiple safety requirements for the same customer, subject to having the appropriate training and qualifications.
Build Customer Relationships
Workplace safety testing can involve recurring requirements. Providing professional service, accurate records, and a reliable experience gives you an opportunity to develop ongoing relationships with customers.
The Pay for Work Guarantee
This is one of the most important things to understand about Jim’s Test and Tag. If Jim’s Group cannot provide you with a sufficient level of paid work in your area, your franchisor is required to compensate you for the shortfall.
This means you are not going it alone in those early months while your client base is building. It is a safety net built into the franchise model — not a marketing promise, a contractual obligation.
• Guaranteed minimum paid work weeks in your territory
• Compensation from your franchisor if the guarantee is not met
• Applies from the start of your franchise — not after a 6-month waiting period
• Every Jim’s Test and Tag franchise comes with this guarantee as standard

Owning a Jim’s Test & Tag franchise means building your own local business while operating as part of the wider Jim’s Group network.
For a new business owner, that provides something an independent startup cannot immediately replicate: an established brand, existing systems, training resources, and access to people who already understand the Jim’s franchise model.
You still need to put in the work, develop customer relationships, deliver professional service, and build your business. The difference is that you don’t have to build the entire framework from scratch.
“The goal was never to build the biggest franchise network. It was to build the best one — where franchisees actually make money and customers actually get looked after.”
