JIM’S GROUP
JIM’S Franchise f.a.q.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE JIM’S GROUP
If you’ve ever considered starting your own Jim’s Group franchise, you may have found yourself feeling overwhelmed by all the information out there. Before starting any business, it’s important to do your research. We’ve put together this page so you can find the answers to some of our most commonly asked questions with ease.
How Does a Jim’s Franchise Work?
A Jim’s franchise belongs to the wider Jim’s Group network, however, each franchise operates as a semi-autonomous business. Franchisees are responsible for running the day-to-day operations of their business, while their franchisors are on hand to provide them with ongoing support and mentoring. Read more about the Jim’s Group franchise model here.
How many Jim’s Services are there?
You might be surprised to learn that Jim’s Group has over 50 service divisions across its portfolio! New divisions are launched regularly, so our company is constantly growing.
How do I know which division is right for me?
At the end of the day, the answer to this is a highly individual one. The best way to figure out which division is right for you is to think about what you enjoy doing and where your skills lie. For example, if you enjoy working outdoors and working with your hands, perhaps a Mowing or Fencing franchise would be the best fit for you.
This is a question we get asked frequently, so we’ve written an article to help you come to a decision.
Can I franchise an existing business?
Absolutely. You can certainly take an existing business and rebrand it as a Jim’s franchise.
Why buy a franchise over starting my own business?
It’s no secret that starting a business can be very difficult. However, you’re much more likely to succeed under a franchise model because you have the backing of an existing brand and an established model. Statistics show that around 90-95% of cleaning and gardening businesses fail within the first year. At Jim’s, that number drops down to 11%.
How do you become a Master Franchise
At Jim’s, we call our Master Franchises ‘Regional Franchises’. Our regional franchisors are responsible for providing support to their region, whilst also contributing to the growth of their region. To become a regional franchisor, the first step is to reach out and express your interest. These positions are highly sought after, so get in touch to learn more.
Is Jim’s a local business?
Community is a big part of our ethos. Although Jim’s Group is a large company, we encourage our franchisees to establish a good reputation and presence within their local communities.
Is it truly a lifestyle business?
Owning a Jim’s franchise allows you to achieve the perfect work-life balance. Our franchisees are given the opportunity and freedom to set their own hours, take time off when they want, and to grow and develop their very own business in their own time.
INVESTMENT AND FEES
What are the upfront costs of buying a franchise?
The costs involved in buying a Jim’s franchise varies depending on the region, the division, and whether it’s a new or existing business. That’s why the best way to get an accurate estimate is to get in touch with us directly.
What about fees?
In terms of fees, Jim’s Group is unique in that we don’t take a percentage of your earnings. Instead, we charge a flat monthly fee, which means that our franchisees get to keep more of their hard-earned dollars to themselves. There’s also a cost per lead fee that ranges anywhere from $9-18. However, as franchisees become more self-sufficient over time and less reliant on leads in our system, this fee can easily be avoided.
All in all, franchisees can expect to pay around $700 per month in fees. The flat monthly fee differs between divisions, so get in touch with us today if you would like some more accurate information.
What support is there for startup fees?
We try to make starting a business as accessible as possible. Financing options are available for those who may need some additional help to get their business up and running. Jim’s Financial Services is just one way that we can offer support to help you cover the startup costs.
How much of my earnings does Jim’s Group take?
Like all franchise models, Jim’s Group franchisees pay an ongoing fee in exchange for support from the group. However, we differ from most franchise models in that we charge our franchisees a flat monthly fee, as opposed to a percentage of their sales. This means the more you earn, the more you keep.
What do I receive for my initial investment?
Your initial investment covers training, equipment, tools, and support in setting up your business. If you’re buying an existing business, you’ll also receive an established client base.
How many customers does Jim’s first set you up with?
This depends on whether you’re buying an existing business or starting from scratch. If you buy an existing business, you’ll receive an established client base. However, if you’re starting a franchise from scratch, you’ll need to work to build this client base up.
At Jim’s Group, we have a dedicated call centre that provides our franchisees with leads. Given that we receive more than 200,000 unserviced leads every year, it’s safe to say that most of our franchisees don’t struggle to find work..
How soon before I start making money?
Again, the answer to this is highly individual. However, most Jim’s Group franchises are profitable within their first year, with some franchisees taking in $300,000 worth of sales in their very first year..
What is the Jim’s Pay For Work Guarantee?
Our ‘Pay For Work Guarantee’ is a financial safety net that is provided to all Franchisees. Franchisors will pay franchisees for performing work and tasks for free. By doing this free work, franchisees are able to rapidly build their business and establish a client base
LOCATION AND TERRITORIES
How does a territory work?
When you buy a Jim’s Group franchise, you are allocated a territory. This means that you’re given the right of first refusal to all work and leads in your specific area.
Is the territory exclusive to me?
As mentioned above, you’ll receive the right of first refusal to all leads in your territory. However, given that so many leads go unserviced at Jim’s, it’s not always possible to say yes to every single lead that comes in. If you aren’t able to service a lead, a franchisee from another territory is allowed to take that particular job.
Can I expand beyond my territory?
Absolutely. There’s lots of unserviced work at Jim’s, so we always encourage our franchisees to expand their businesses if they can..
Is there a restriction to how much I can grow?
For fairness purposes, the only thing that you can’t do in terms of expansion is door knock in someone else’s territory. Other than that, the sky’s the limit..
What is a split?
A split is when a franchisee has so many regular customers that they divide them off. For example, a Jim’s Mowing franchisee with 130 customers might choose to sell half of their customers off for around $20,000. Splits are a win-win for both parties; the seller receives income, whilst the buyer receives a loyal client base.
TRAINING, COMMUNITY, AND SUPPORT
Do you provide full training for those coming from unrelated industries?
Yes. We provide full training to all our onboarding franchisees. During training, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about starting and operating a successful business. Read more about our world-class training program here.
Can I attend a training session without signing up to a franchise?
Yes. We don’t ask you to sign any contracts before attending training, so there are no strings attached.
Can I go out on the road to see if Jim’s is right for me before signing?
Absolutely! Trial days are a great way to experience for yourself a typical day on the road, so we encourage anyone thinking about joining Jim’s to come along on a trial day.
How involved is Jim?
Every single one of our franchisees is given Jim Penman’s email address and personal mobile number. He’s always on-hand to provide our franchisees with specific business advice and support.
What other support will I receive?
Aside from the support of our founder and managing director, Jim Penman, you’ll also receive support from a dedicated head office team. You’ll also receive ongoing support and mentoring from your franchisor, who will check in on you regularly to see how you’re going and if you need any advice or assistance.
