Technology has come a long way. Even in the last 20 years, we have seen the rise of many great technological inventions. GPS devices, camera phones, Bluetooth, the iPhone, and of course digital television. In 2013, Australia’s last remaining analogue TV transmitters were switched off. Another advancement in the area of television has been the introduction of the Smart TV. A Smart TV is a television that can be connected to the internet to access streaming media, such as Netflix. It can also run entertainment apps, internet music services, and web browsers.
So, in this day and age many people ask, “Do I still need an antenna for my TV?”
The short answer is: Yes!
Indoor antennas
There is no such thing as the “best TV antenna” that we should all rush out and buy. The right antenna for you depends on where you live, and what you watch. It’s also handy to know where the nearest transmitting tower is located in relation to your home. If the nearest transmitter is nearby, an indoor antenna may be all you need. Be sure to check at the specifications of the indoor antenna. The range, or reach, should exceed the distance from your home to the transmitting tower.

Outdoor antennas
For optimal TV reception, an outdoor antenna is ideal. Choosing the right antenna will prevent reception problems. No one wants pixelating or scratchy TV reception. Once again, as with an indoor antenna, it’s good to know where the transmitting tower is located. Finding the best position for the TV antenna, and installing it, is a job best left to the professionals. They have specialised equipment to determine the best spot for the strongest signal. They also know which brackets and mounts to use, and will run the cabling to the splitter, or wall plate, inside the house.

Reception Issues
Naturally, choosing the wrong TV antenna will lead to reception issues. However, there are other factors that can cause a dodgy reception. Has the antenna been damaged in a severe storm? Have the correct cables been used? Is there any interference from electrical appliances?
