For people with IT skills who want to build a business, joining an established franchise can offer more than simply working under a recognised name. Jim’s IT franchisor Tony Altun explains what it costs to join, what franchisees receive, the income figures he sees across the division, and the support available as they build their business.

What Does the $25,000 Jim’s IT Franchise Cost Include?

A Jim’s IT franchise costs $25,000 to join, and Tony describes that price as a turnkey business package. It includes training, flights and accommodation to Melbourne for interstate franchisees, a start-up pack, an iFixit tool kit, car signage, uniform, business cards and setup of key online business pages.

Tony says the training is extensive and gives new franchisees the chance to meet Jim Penman, founder of Jim’s Group. For franchisees outside Victoria, Jim’s IT organises flights and accommodation so they can attend training in Melbourne. Prospective franchisees can also review Jim’s Group’s franchisee training program before making a decision.

The start-up pack is practical rather than just administrative. Tony says it includes a tool kit supplied through an agreement with iFixit, along with car signage, uniform and business cards. Jim’s IT also sets up the franchisee’s Google My Business page and Facebook page so the basic online presence is ready before they begin operating.

The work itself extends well beyond basic computer repairs. Tony lists computer and laptop repairs, Wi-Fi networks, home networking, internet connectivity, tablets and mobile devices among the services covered. He also makes an important point about suitability: a prospective franchisee needs a passion for IT and a basic understanding of IT before joining. Certifications and formal qualifications can come later, but Tony says Jim’s IT is not a division where every technical skill can simply be taught from scratch.

How Much Can a Jim’s IT Franchisee Earn?

Tony says the bare minimum figure he uses is five to six grand a month, while some Jim’s IT franchisees make eight, 10, or 12 grand a month. He also says franchisees with established clientele or business customers on fixed-fee monthly IT support can reach figures over $15,000 a month minimum.

He also refers to a $1,500 pay-for-work guarantee offered by Jim’s IT. Jim’s Group includes a Pay for Work Guarantee among the support it provides to franchisees through its franchisee support system.

Tony says existing IT operators can have an advantage because they already understand the work and may already have customers. In his experience, people with IT skills or experience running an operator business have a higher success rate in the division.

He also identifies lead generation as one of the biggest struggles for independent IT businesses, particularly the cost involved in generating those leads. Tony describes Jim’s IT as a “lead-generating machine” and says the wider brand presence plays a major role.

For someone comparing an independent IT business with a franchise model, earnings are only part of the equation. The systems, lead generation, training, and ongoing business support included with the franchise also need to be considered.

How Fast Has the Jim’s IT Franchise Grown?

Tony says he started in 2022, initially managing Victoria. Since the division’s major rebrand after COVID, he says Jim’s IT has grown from seven franchisees to exactly 54 franchisees across Australia.

He describes 2022 as his first year managing Victoria and says he received his first gold award during that period. In 2023, he received the Diamond award for Jim’s IT Australia, which he describes as the highest award at the time. He also refers to receiving Platinum awards after that.

Tony also mentions Brad, one of his franchisees who later became support personnel. Brad received a gold award in 2024. Tony connects these awards directly with franchisee support rather than simply business growth.

The growth from seven to 54 franchisees also gives some context to Tony’s current role. He says he now trains, mentors and develops franchisees across almost every state in Australia.

Anyone comparing the division with other franchise opportunities can also review Jim’s Group’s franchise ownership process, which covers the steps involved before a new franchisee goes live.

What Support Do Jim’s IT Franchisees Receive?

Tony says the work he is describing focuses on supporting franchisees through training, mentoring, development, on-site assistance, business guidance, marketing, and advertising.

He also points to the range of technical skills within the Jim’s IT network. According to Tony, the group includes specialists in data recovery, Mac repairs, Apple-certified work, gaming computers, programs, web development, SEO and digital marketing. He gives the example of one franchisee who solely focuses on digital marketing.

That mix matters because Jim’s IT is not limited to fixing computers. A franchisee may bring one technical strength while also having access to people with different specialities inside the network. Tony describes this as an ecosystem and a small family of people with different skill sets.

Support also covers how to operate the business, not only how to complete technical work. Tony says his role includes helping franchisees understand how to run a business, assisting them on site and supporting their marketing and advertising.

For someone thinking about a tech franchise, Tony’s main message is straightforward: technical interest matters, but so do business systems, lead generation and ongoing support. Jim’s IT is looking for people who already have a basic understanding of IT and want to build a business around those skills.
