The below is a copy of the email Jim received from Julius Sanders who is a proud Jim’s Mowing franchise owner in the Northern Territory.

I just read your message regarding my 3rd year anniversary as a franchisee.
I understand how important recommends are to me in my work.
I can only conclude that you and Jims mowing would also like a recommend and or testimonial.
I am not new to the service industry. As a very young man, I had my own cleaning run in the northern suburbs of Sydney. It paid the bills but my lack of knowing how to run my own business led to my abandoning that route. This is an important point. As a jims franchisee I have been guided at every step to make a success of my business.
I came back to cleaning and gardening about 10 years ago. Again, it was good enough to pay the bills, if only just. I had no one to guide or mentor me and the business creaked along on broken wheels. Now I am guided and mentored by my excellent franchisor
Then about 4 years ago, Inpex, letting go over 1000 workers placed a glut of cleaners and gardeners on the market. Like them, I advertised for work through Gumtree and FaceBook and letterbox drops. I was competing for work with people who were offering to clean or garden for $20 an hour. I cannot feed my family on $20 per hour rates. My leads sucked. No other polite word for it. And this is my third important point. I now have regular leads from customers who understand that they are paying for quality work and are not constantly low balling the quote.
Then three years ago, the turnaround with my franchisor offering me a place at Jim’s. This was a life changing step for me. I struggled at first. Nothing seemed to go right. I made many mistakes. I nearly gave up. It took a year to sort myself out. Then my business grew. The second-year wet season, I earned enough extra to pay for a new 50” ride-on mower.
Three years ago I was frantic with worry over poor finances, and now on the third year anniversary of starting with Jims:
I can pay my bills
I bought my wife a new car. This was her childhood dream and Jims was the road to realising that.
I can pay to house, feed, educate and medicate my wife’s extended family in Cebu. Two of her sisters graduated DUX from high school and are now in university, often first in class, but repeatedly in the top three in class. Educating them is expensive but personally rewarding.
I have a new ute, only a month old.
My son, nearly sixteen, is fit and healthy and strong and knows how to garden and maintain tools and repair small engines
I have fantastic customers.
I get great leads. The last month of leads earned two times my franchise fees for the month. (I have had to switch leads off, I have TOO MUCH WORK!!)
I have a first-class franchisor who has always given assistance when I asked.
And all because of the points I raised earlier:
1 As a Jim’s franchisee I have been guided at every step to make a success of my business.
2 I get mentoring by my excellent franchisor
3 I have regular leads from customers who understand that they are paying for quality work and are not constantly low balling the quote.
Thanks, Jim. I would highly recommend a Jim’s franchise to anyone. For me, it was not a smooth ride at the start but now I am very happy that I stuck with it. It has been very rewarding.
